As the first specialized department for oral mucosal diseases established in China, it is designated as a National Key Clinical Specialty. The department specializes in integrating traditional Chinese and Western medicine to treat complex mucosal conditions. It is at the forefront in China for diagnosing and treating diseases such as lichen planus, leukoplakia, and Sjögren's syndrome, as well as screening for precancerous lesions. Additionally, the department has developed several proprietary traditional Chinese medications.

The Department of Oral Implantology at Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology is one of the earliest departments in China dedicated to clinical practice and research in oral implantology.
