The department is a leader in China in the diagnosis and treatment of Kawasaki disease, pediatric hypertension, heart failure, and congenital heart disease. It pioneered the COME protocol for the standardized management of pediatric hypertension, and was the first in China to perform complex device therapies such as the extravascular implantable cardioverter-defibrillator, demonstrating advanced clinical capabilities.

One of the first national key specialties for pediatric intensive care. The department began providing mechanical ventilation treatment as early as the 1980s, and is among the leading centers in China for the comprehensive treatment of pediatric septic shock, severe infections, and multiple organ failure.
